THE DEFINITIVE SKYLAB TV ARCHIVE

For half a century, the raw visual record of America's first space station sat decaying—buried deep in NASA archive vaults and private collectors' storage on 16mm kinescopes and video tapes. The true story of Skylab was quietly slipping into oblivion. It has taken Dwight Steven-Boniecki two decades of forensic research to salvage and restore these original broadcasts and share them with you today.
Across 8 exhaustive discs, Volume 4 [Skylab: The 16mm Onboards] unlocks the raw, unfiltered visual diary of America’s first space station across all three crewed expeditions (SL-2, SL-3, and SL-4). Captured through onboard Maurer film cameras, this collection bypasses polished PR to deliver humanity in orbit: from Pete Conrad repairing airlocks and Joe Kerwin’s zero-G shower, to spiders spinning webs, Jack Lousma throwing paper airplanes, and Jerry Carr constructing the iconic orbital Christmas tree. Unvarnished, forensically rescued, and paired with synchronized mission audio, this is the living archive of 50 years of human grit.

Whether you choose the physical DVD set or the digital edition, you are doing more than just watching history. You are stepping up as a co-preservationist—standing guard over a unique story of vision, courage, and personal integrity forged by the NASA teams on the ground and in space who made the impossible, achievable.

This isn't some recycled footage you've seen many times before. It's the real deal.
For the first time ever, you get the unfiltered experience of America's first space station, exactly as it happened.

Because early 1970s live video broadcast technology had strict limits, NASA relied heavily on high-quality 16mm Maurer motion picture cameras for onboard documentation.
Armed with these cameras, astronauts across Skylab 2, 3, and 4 captured extensive cinematic film of interior operations, groundbreaking microgravity experiments, and breathtaking spacewalks.
This volume presents that 16mm film archive in its pure, unvarnished form. Rather than sanitizing the footage, every reel is preserved—from crystal-clear orbital sequences to raw, authentic moments shaped by low light, manual focus tweaks, and film cartridge adjustments. Preserved straight from the vault sources, the footage retains its authentic, unedited sequence—offering a true archivist's look through the original film reels. Paired with immersive highlights of original mission audio, Volume 4 delivers a rare, visceral look at human life and engineering inside America's first space station.

NASA recorded the entire program via audio and video, and every second of each of the 3 manned missions was covered for 28, 59 and 84 days respectively.
Sometimes, finding key material, was like finding needles in a haystack. For example, it took Dwight 5 years to unearth the audio of a key discussion between the astronauts and their boss. Lucky, that other times the right material was staring you in the face.

Film Director
It took a decade for a hobby to turn into passion and turn into a professional career. I refused to let my findings silently fade into obscurity. I felt that sharing them with people like you was essential. Otherwise, these forgotten stories of spectacular human achievements in exploring our world would just continue to deteriorate further, only now in my attic.
I was in the privileged position of being able to still get 7 out of the 9 Skylab astronaut's to tell us their own stories of Skylab and share them with you. It's how this multi-award-winning, feature-length documentary about Skylab came about.
This NASA program is unmatched. Skylab has been captivating me for so long and the discoveries I made were simply too monumental not to share.
By making this purchase, you become part of the community celebrating the monumental Skylab program.
The film captures the essence of this amazing, yet forgotten NASA achievement. With over 150 individuals coming together we have been able to bring this story to life, and let you uncover the hidden space treasures unlike anything you've seen before.

With astronauts revealing their stories from Skylab and its extraordinary success, they share how the technology that put humans in space unfolded, aided with stunning, never before seen and restored archive footage.
I thought the film was well made and researched. I followed all of the Skylab flights when I was in high school. I especially liked the interviews of the astronauts and others involved.

Here's the follow-up to the story of TV in space, which started with the Apollo Moon landings and continued with Skylab. This book explores the intricate planning and development of TV systems on Skylab, ASTP, and the Shuttle, alongside captivating summaries of the missions' TV coverage. Gain insights from NASA, Westinghouse, and RCA experts, revealing the immense effort behind bringing historical space footage to your home.

Features spectacular video of Skylab from the NASA archives. The mission of Skylab 2 was the forerunner of all of NASA’s subsequent orbital repair missions. Conrad, Kerwin and Weitz proved to the world that astronauts could conduct long and ambitious repairs in space and go on to fulfil many of their original scientific objectives. They also established a new record for the longest time in space for a U.S. space mission, remaining in orbit for almost a month. This is the story of the beginning of the colonisation of space.
